General- The washable AFI grease filter is specifically engineered for kitchen ventilating systems and is designed to be installed in standard canopies or backshelf assemblies. A series of offset baffles positioned vertically within a frame alters the flow of grease-laden air. The Grease impinges upon the baffles and drains downward. Holes in the frame bottom divert the grease into a trough and to a container away from the fire danger area.

The filter has an average efficiency of 94% at 300-fpm face velocity. Grease filter results were obtained on rendered lard material heated to a liquid state and dispersed into the airstream. Type AFI is UL1046 listed.

Construction-The type AFI grease filter uses an .032" thick type 304 stainless steel frame to enclose the baffles. The corners are mitered and the frame is secured with pop rivet(s). The concave shape of the frame increases the integral strength of the filter.

Baffles are manufactured of .032" thick type 304 stainless steel and secured to the frame with the stainless rivets. They are semi-circular in form with end flanges to prevent re-entry of the grease into the airstream.

Five standard normal size filters are available in a 2"(1-7/8 actual) thickness only, and they are 3/8" undercuts on the height and width dimensions.

Installation: Install the filter at an angle no greater that 45 degrees from vertical to allow grease to flow freely through the drain holes without pooling and make sure the baffles are in a vertical position. Hold the filter by the baffles or the handles (see options) during installation.

Options- Handles are available. Handles may be installed on the filters at the factory or purchased separately for field installation.

Bail Handles Swivel 180 Degrees and can be closed when not in use.

Lift Handles are Stationary and cannot be closed.

Filter Cleaning: For moderate-use applications, run the filters through the dishwasher daily. For heavy use applications, presoaking in a detergent solution prior to dishwasher cleaning is commended.

• All standard size type AFI filters are pre-drilled to accept bail and lift handles.

Specifications- General 1.0- 1.1 Washable grease filter shall be type AFI baffle type supplied by American Metal Filter Company, National City, CA 1.2 Filter shall be UL 1046 Listed.

Construction- 2.0 - 2.1 Frame shall be type 304 stainless steel with mitered corners and secured with pop rivet(s). 2.2 Frame shall be formed with a concave web and 90 degrees flanges at the end of both legs for added structural strength. 2.3 Baffles shall be semi-circular in form with flanges on the ends to prevent re-entry of grease into the airstream.

Performance-3.0 3.1 Clean resistance to air flow shall not exceed .56" W.G. at 300 fpm face velocity. 3.2. Filters shall have an average efficiency of 94% at 300-fpm face velocity.
