HVAC Filters-Type AFI Tech Sheet

General- The washable Type AFI two-stage foam and aluminum filter is designed to replace the disposable air filters. Placing filter foam behind an aluminum mesh pre-filter creates the unique two-stage design with greater arrestance and efficiency over the all-metal washable filter. Type AFI is designed for use in residential, commercial and industrial applications to filter air, and it can be used either dry or coated with filter adhesive.

Both dry and adhesive-coated filters are UL 900 Class 2 listed.

Construction- The Type AFI filer uses a .040" thick 3003 H-14 aluminum frame to enclose the filter media pack. The corners are mitered and the frame is secured with pop rivet(s).

The first AFI stage is expanded aluminum grid corrugated to increase its available surface, followed by one or more layers of corrugated aluminum screen wire. These components are assembled in a criss-cross fashion for strength. The second AFI stage is one layer in 25 pores per inch (ppi) filter foam backed by an expanded aluminum support grid.

Six standard nominal size filters are available in thickness of 1" (7/8" actual) and 2"(1-7/8" actual) and they are 1/2" undercut on the height and width dimensions.

Special size filters are made to exact height and width dimensions as specified are available in thickness of ½" (1/2"actual), 1" (7/8" actual), and 2" ( 1-7/8 actual).

Filter Coats and Cleaning - Filter Coat adhesive helps retain the dirt particles. To clean a dirty filter, rinse it with a moderate-to-heavy stream of warm water. High-powered steam cleaning or chemical dips are unnecessary and not recommended. re-spraying with Filter Coat will help maintain the filter efficiency.

Stage 2 shall be one layer of 30-ppi-filter foam backed by an expanded aluminum support grid.
