Summer is HERE!
While some areas are not experiencing crippling hot temperatures yet, many of us already have our A/C units running full time. It is important to properly maintain your air conditioner unit to prevent unit issues or failure during the hottest months of the year. To help safeguard your air conditioner over the summer:

Check and replace your air filters frequently. Frequency depends on household traffic, but a good rule of thumb is every 30 days. Pro Tip: Write the date you installed your filter on the filter frame, so you never forget!

Turn up (not off) the temperature on the thermostat when the house is not occupied. It is recommended to set the temperature 10 degrees higher than when you occupy the space. This will not only save on energy costs but will require your AC unit to work less, while still allowing it to remain relatively cool for when you return.

When awake and home during the summer months, the ideal thermostat temperature is 78 degrees. 78 degrees too hot? Turn on ceiling fans – they consume less energy than an A/C unit and can make it feel up to 10 degrees cooler.

Perform checkups on your outside units and remove all debris and overgrown landscaping to allow for proper airflow.

Clean the outside unit coils with a watering hose. This can help the unit dissipate heat more effectively, saving on energy costs.

Schedule a certified technician to inspect and perform an A/C unit tune-up, as well as check for any potential problems.

The use of curtains, particularly black-out curtains, do a great job of blocking outdoor heat and sunlight to keep your room or home a few degrees cooler.
